I agree that if we signed him and he got hurt that things would go downhill fast. We need to build depth and focus on the future. I don't think getting Haynesworth will help us do that.

It's an easy question, I think.  Do you want to tie up $16 million on one man who, despite his past, may not good through the goods or may get hurt?  Or would you rather spend that money at different positions with multiple players more likely to come in with chips on their shoulders and something to prove?  Keep in mind that the #13 pick in the draft won't come cheap, either.

I'm just really tired of forever throwing money at players whose best years are probably behind them (see Stubblefield, B. Smith, D. Sanders(gag), etc).  When are we going to build a team thru the draft in order to become a viable threat?  Haynesworth wants way too much moolah...he's good but he's not $100 million good IMO.  IMO he's no better than Peppers.  I hope we don't do this..it's a mistake waiting to happen.  It'll be another Jason Taylor type thing...uuuggghhh.  I'm sick of it...

This was posted about our Defense and then there is talk about getting Haynesworth and all the negatives come out about us spending to much money.  Bottom line is that you need to spend money to get top notch talent!!!!!!!!  Maybe I do not agree of how much he is going to cost but I am happy that we have a owner that is willing to go out of a limb and get talent.  What I am hearing on these forums is that nobody wants Haynesworth!!!!!  Let me ask you that do not want him, How do we get better at pressuring the QB? Without spending money thru the draft is what I am hearing?  Below is what somebody wrote about our D and IMO that is what they are trying to do.

Theres been a bit of talk about our O line and offense in general and what we have to do with it to improve the team but id like to spotlight our Defense.

While our D has been able to put in performances that have stopped the oppersitions running against us we could definately do with a bit more aggression from our D.  We have to get at the opposing QB more and disrupt their O line, get some penetration, give them more problems and put a stop to their drives.  A few more 3 & outs for the oppersition would be good.

I know we had injuries on our D from day one and the impact of Jason Taylor didnt really get going but the overall amount of pressure we put on the oppersition was poor.

Sacks,  We only managed 24 sacks all season compared with 38 for the oppersition.  We had three players leading the sack count,  Andre Carter, Jason Taylor and  Demetric Evans  with 4 sacks each.  We need more sacks.

Turnovers,  Chris Horton was our leader with only 3 interceptions all last season, we had a final team total of 13 interceptions.  Id like to think we could put more pressure on the opposing QB and thus create more interceptions.  We need more Interceptions.

The lack of pressure from our D was a weakness that should be addressed.

Now wheather or not we do something to address this is another matter.....

My point was/is that we've done this year after year and we get the same results season after season.  Clearly throwing money at "big names" doesn't always breed success(see the names I noted in my original post).  I agree that we need to pressure the QBs more and get some sacks...but where's the guarantee that Haynesworth will bring that?...just b/c he did that last season doesn't equal a repeat performance in DC this coming season.  I've never liked Haynesworth and I certainly don't think he's worth that amount of money.  I won't pretend I know what the answer is but it seems that if you keep doing something year after year & it continues to fail..why not change what you're doing?  BUILD a team, have some patience(I know we've been waiting quite a while), and reap some of those benefits.  We all thought JT was gonna be "that guy" and then he gets hurt and turns out to NOT be that guy..I know it's a crap shoot....but I'm tired of stuffing the wallets of these "veteran" guys and getting 0 return.

I do understand what you're saying Redskin ty...but I feel that Haynesworth isn't the answer...but I'm no coach nor an expert..I could be totally wrong.  I'm just speaking my feelings.  I know that no matter what...we will go money crazy on someone during this FA period..it's what Snyder does...

redskin_ty  It was me who 1st posted this,

To improve our D  we dont HAVE to  bet the "Farm" on Albert Haynesworth.  We can build on what we have. improve our Push on the Dline and pressure the passer by recruiting frugaly through the FA and the Draft.

We need to add depth and Youth but not break the bank doing so.

What if we do get Haynesworth and pay him big,  and he then gets injured in the 1st game and hes out for the season?    What then?Huh

Its far too big a risk.   We are in a situation where we HAVE to get under the Cap and by getting Haynesworth and paying him all he wants, , well it doesnt add up to me.

ldysknzfn I like what you say and feel the same way  Wink

Keep posting guys

The guy takes plays off, will probably play differently now that he has his $41 million up front and is probably celebrating by engorging himself with Twinkies.  Some people just never learn!

I know you wernt mate  Smiley  Just saying it was I who made the post.

I know Albert will improve our D, lets face it hes going to be on the opposing teams mind from the start, etc etc   I dont think anyone is doubting he will improve us big time but the thing is the risk of taking him at the price he commands.

I put the initial post up because I wanted to see the Skins get more pressure on the Passer, i got my wish but at what price to the team?

I tend to look at the big picture and not so much short term, as much as I look at this it just doesnt add up to being a wise decision for the team as a whole.

Im very down at the moment and I do feel as tho the FO havent done the right thing, I feel as though they have let us fans down. I know not everyone sees it like that but I do and im an emotional person, so i may show more than some.   I'll get over it and support my Skins what ever the mistakes the FO or anyone else makes, thats just how i am.

Hey Albert may just play out of his skin and have a great season but he will still have cost us Roster depth.

Hey, guys...I guess I'm 50/50 on this whole Haynesworth issue. However, it is official that he's a redskin and that he's getting 100 million. I'd like to think he can help us and that we can now focus on o-line and LB and other areas of need, but I also worry about him getting hurt and I agree that 100 million shouldn't be thrown away on him (I don't know how we can with the cap!). This move is obviously a gamble and another big FA signing by our FO. Even though the d-line needs help and we need to get more sacks and turnovers, I'm not completely sure Snyder and Vinny are dealing with it the right way here. Anybody know if picks were given up?

I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all turns out. Fingers crossed!
