Some draft picks are a sure thing. But most never pan out as planned. Look at the draft history over the years. Remember that even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut. Maybe Vinnie will do so this year. LOL

I'm not holding my breath on that one.  I know you all don't want to read this, but with Danny & Vinny running things, we're not going to have the long-term, on-field success you all crave.  From the Jason Taylor fiasco to all this overspending on one player instead of filling multiple holes, this team will continue to see mediocrity at best.

While you have some valid points about some recent acquistions in FA.We would have never signed Taylor in the first place if it were not for a freak season-ending injury on day one of training camp. So they F.O did the only thing they could do get the best player you could to replace your starter.Who knew Jason Taylor would be injured right and left the whole season? There are things out of the F.O control. As far as Haynesworth goes this was the best signing in FA EVER in recent history. This is not Adam Archuleta or Brandon Lloyd. Albert Haynesworth is the best damn player at his position in the NFL. The F.O has added clauses in his contract about working out and all. What more can you ask for? Production and contribution to the team's success falls squarely on the players. If the F.O holds up their part of the deal. Then the players have to do the same. It's not as if the F.O has a crystal ball to see who pans out ,who doesn't. Would I love to see the Redskins become an elite team. Of course. Who's to say that they are not on the right track now? We've cut Springs,Washington, and Taylor. This allows the youth movement to continue. Also how do we know that if we had passed on signing Haynesworth that signing Boley,Canty,Andrews, etc would automatically mean success? Suppose signing those several different guys still doesn't get you much better than 8-8 then what?  Suppose they didn't have good work out habits or started getting injured, or just don't pan out in our system then we're back to square one again. It's not all that cut and dry.

I'm all for having an experienced back-up QB on the roster just in case...I just don't understand the importance of being listed as the #2 over the #3. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the option of putting in the guy that best matches the situation? Depending on the way your o-line is playing presently or the scheme you're playing against one guy might be a better bet than the other----and as situations change then your 'go to guy' might change too.

Please forgive my ignorance but this is a serious question: just how do rookie QBs (or any player) gain experience unless they are actually put into regular season action to 'sink or swim' as UK-SF stated? Training camp and pre-season are mostly simulations aren't they?

But, Miss Dirty 30, you just described the Danny & Vinny Paradox.  Any real FO worth its weight would have checked with the coaching staff first BEFORE sinking draft picks into a player like Jason Taylor.  He was talented but he didn't fit in the Redskins defensive system.  Greg Blache didn't even want him just for that reason.  The Scott Piolis of the world would have taken a step back and gone after someone who's not only serviceable, but also would fill their needs.  Injury notwithstanding, Jason Taylor was playing out of position as soon as he got here.  He never had to worry about run support and he also didn't have to deal with as many double teams because he always played weak side.  The FO looked at his name and stats and thought, "Oh, he'll be good!  Let's give them a second-rounder," without looking at the big picture.  Sure, Taylor was injured (and sold a LOT of jerseys).  But, again, the Redskins are at a severe disadvantage when compared to other teams because its front office doesn't work with a full knowledge of player evaluation.

I don't know that the F.O just went out and signed Jason Taylor without consulating Greg Blache so I can't speak on that.
What I will say is that Greg Blache has to shoulder some of the blame here too. He is the defensive cordinator. It is his job to put the players in the best situation to use their talents and abilities. If Jason Taylor was playing out of position then is it not Coach Blache's job to make adjustments ,seeing that it wasn't productive? All that is NOT on the F.O Vinny and Danny are not the coaches and as far as I know do not interfere in such matters. Everything can not be blamed on the F.O. It is your  opinion that the F.O saw JT as a cash cow and a means to sell jerseys. You maybe right but I don't think that low of the F.O. I sincerely believe Dan Synder wants what's best for this franchise. After all he is a life long Redskins fan himself. Before you can succeed ,sometimes you have to fail.
I personally think we are probably on the right track for the first time in a longtime. Aside from re-signing Daniels and Wynn we have gotten younger. That's a good thing to me.

Point taken MD-30.  But, if Taylor is moved to his natural position, Blache, who I mentioned before didn't even want Taylor, would then have to move Andre Carter OUT of his natural position -- and position that got him 10 sacks in 2007 -- and have him re-learn a whole new position.  The move created a negative domino effect on that line.  I don't doubt that Snyder wants to win, but I think he wants to do it on his terms in a way that shows he's the smartest guy in the room.  Bringing in someone with a solid knowledge of player evaluation -- like a Scott Pioli or a Floyd Reese -- would take the spotlight away from him.  Meantime, concerning Jason Taylor, read the link below:

Good article, Stew. Of coure, it further states what most Skins fans don't want to hear. The d-line is obviously a question mark with the signing of Hyanesworth, and our problems with depth and pass rush ability at DE. However, I read on redskins.com that Brennan will have the chance to be #2 in 2009. With that said, I think this thread has come to its conclusion.
