With some of Zorn's comments about how we need to get more pressure from the D-line and cause more turnovers and the FO's perpencity to sign big name FA's, I really think that Julius Peppers will be a name brought up in the next couple of weeks. The thing is though without a Kris Jenkins or another good DT to help him out, would he be as dominant as he can be?..I think that when Jenkins was injured Peppers had his worst season.

I have always been a big fan of Peppers and I know that he can control a game from the DE position with the proper line but how do you guys think that we could help him out if we do get him?

Would it be feasible to get Peppers and draft a DT with the 13th pick and afterwards try to pick up a O-lineman with the 3rd rounder?

Should we get Peppers, try to trade Rogers for a second and use the 13th pick to get a DT and use Rogers' trade pick and the 3rd rounder on  O-linemen?

How do you guys think that we should go about getting the max out of a player like Peppers if we do end up getting him via free agency because he will not be able to do it alone?

Huh  I just dont know if I want any big moves in the FA   Huh

My head says no dont do it, the days of "chucking money" at a problem to solve it are over!  But my heart says yeh go for it get a Julius Peppers and let him loose on the opposing Offense.......   But like you said he would probably need help?Huh

But then I have a realaty check and think we would be better off getting a good pass rusher with our #13 pick in the Draft and strenghtening our O line with our later picks........  Roll Eyes  Undecided Huh

Bottom line is we are in the "Mother of all bad situations"  with our Cap and lack of Draft picks and what ever we do, sadly we wont be able to do half as much as whats needed.....

MB  you do ask some hard questions  Smiley

I agree with you about not chunking money UK but I do not think that I would be adversed to one good FA signing if we are planning to follow it up with other moves that makes sense.

Yes MB but thats the problem with this situation we are in, It doesnt make sense to do anything it all seems too little too late!!!   Any way I look at it, lol  We are in too big a mess for anything to make sense lol

I need to clear my head...........

Right, lets have a go,

Bringing in someone (Julius Peppers for example) who can contribute in a big way from day one, Yes please!!!, We will have to balance the books concerning the Cap but yes if its feasible then yes bring a player in.

Getting support for that player, so he can make the maximum impact, be that through Drafting players to strengthen as a unit then fine.

Addidtional Drafts to be then spent on the O line, even though these drafted players may not be ready to be starters straight away, but could plug a gap if need be then yes that sounds like a bit of a plan to me.... we do need to plan for the future here and the O line needs youth and should have been looked at before now.

Is this making sense?  is this making too much sense??

This could be the way forward,  Im still scratching my head though...

Bottom line is we have too few options and too many positions to cover,  what a mess.......

Guys, here's my two cents...

1. This move would be costly in terms of $$ and cap space.

2. The Panthers will probably put the tag on him.

3. I agree that he won't do well unless he has a big DT helping him.

After seeing this, if we can't get o-line at 13 then go after a big versatile DT. As for our limited number of picks, I don't know we're gonna do it, but we need to try and get more. If we don't, it'll just make addressing our need spots even harder.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  We need to stop drooling over free agents and throwing all this money out at them.  Instead, we need to groom our own talent and play guys who are young and hungry to prove their worth.  I think too often, people look at the big names/superstars without asking a few fundamental questions:

  • Is the player in question just a product of the system in which he played previously (see:  Taylor, Jason)?
Will the player fit into the system that's employed by the Redskins?
Can we afford said player, given the team's salary-cap restraints?

I also here people saying, "He'll help us immediately."  A lot of people won't like reading this, but sometimes you have to take a few steps backwards to move forward.  There's a very false impression that the Redskins are just a player or two away from being a Super Bowl contender and that's just not true.  This is an old team with little depth and until it gets younger and the front office takes the draft more seriously, the Redskins will remain a mediocre-at-best team that may make the playoffs every now and then, but won't be mentioned in the same breath as the Pittsburghs and New Englands of the world.

I have to agrre with you on this one Stu. He will be too expensive and he only has a few years left in him. The Taylor deal was an emergency patch and the team is not in the need for that with Peppers.  Hopfully the FO has learned from the mistake.

As much as I loved Peppers at UNC, I don't think that he is worth it at this point. We need to draft a D-Lineman!
