Theres been a bit of talk about our O line and offense in general and what we have to do with it to improve the team but id like to spotlight our Defense.
While our D has been able to put in performances that have stopped the oppersitions running against us we could definately do with a bit more aggression from our D. We have to get at the opposing QB more and disrupt their O line, get some penetration, give them more problems and put a stop to their drives. A few more 3 & outs for the oppersition would be good.
I know we had injuries on our D from day one and the impact of Jason Taylor didnt really get going but the overall amount of pressure we put on the oppersition was poor.
Sacks, We only managed 24 sacks all season compared with 38 for the oppersition. We had three players leading the sack count, Andre Carter, Jason Taylor and Demetric Evans with 4 sacks each. We need more sacks.
Turnovers, Chris Horton was our leader with only 3 interceptions all last season, we had a final team total of 13 interceptions. Id like to think we could put more pressure on the opposing QB and thus create more interceptions. We need more Interceptions.
The lack of pressure from our D was a weakness that should be addressed.
Now wheather or not we do something to address this is another matter.....

I totally agree UK, the D has been our lifeline but if it had a lot more aggression I think that we could get the turnovers necessary.
I know that Zorn was talking about how we need more aggresion on D so hopefully he will do something about it.

Really he was talking about it? Well great minds think alike lol I do likw a good ol' fashion smash mouth D Its probably my faveourite part of football, Id give anything to see our D dominate in an aggressive manner...... I look forward to watching it one day, one day.

Aggressive DT's my friend UK... Aggressive DT's!!!
We have to disrupt plays from the start and not let them develop and then have to run them down or let Qb's sit in the pocket and find each and everyone of his reads. This has particularly hurt us in close games (which we seem to make every game a close one no matter the team we play).
Whatever the team or the time on the clock, we have allowed too many game winning scores.
It just hurts that we can not get any kind of pressure up the middle!!

That's why the Redskins have to come up big in this years draft. If not it will be more of the same. I also think losing Daniels to injury last year really showed up on the D-Line.

Yes, NC, Daniels injury last season came at a bad time and resulted in us recruiting Jayson Taylor you could say it was a bad move in hindsight.... Could we be looking at the Draft to take a DE??
Id like to see a good DT with our #13 Pick. Id love for B.J. Raji to fall to #13
I think Raji would give us more aggression on our D line and help give the oppersition something to think about.

Good thread, UK. Our defense can keep us in games and has given the offense MORE than enough chances. We do have SERIOUS issues with making big plays on both sides of the ball. Obviously, you need a smart QB with a solid o-line and passing game to create consistency on offense. As for the D, you need good pass rushers in addition to being able to stop the run. We have most of these tools, but we need upgrades and versatility badly. We also need players with fire.

What do you guys think? I think that our d was our only bright spot of the season but IMO our failure to sustain long drives and have alot of three and outs. That in turn kept our d on the field to long and towards the end of the season they were just freakin tired. That being said with our secondary being the bright spot a good pass rusher will just make us better.

You are right on that. We have to get a pass rush going next year or we are doomed to be an 8-8 team.

I know our D wasnt bad last year but we need penetration at the Line and more pressure. I think a good DT would make our D that much better and make our DB's job even easier. If we can get pressure from our D line and threaten the pocket then Im sure we could see a lot more interceptions and sacks, this is what we are short of and what we need imo.

Our Defense did play well last year all things considered. But in the NFL you have to put pressure on the QB. Any NFL QB given enough time can make plays. A big DT would clog things up in the middle helping the DE's get in there and put the pressure on. This would also be key to freeing up the LB's to blitz more.
