I was a seventh-round draft pick out of Illinois. I led the league in receiving yards twice. My total yards once stood third all-time in NFL history. I spent 40 years with the Redskins. Who am I and why was my joining the Redskins significant?

"40 years with the team"?...You have to be Stwasm's favorite player, Bobby Mitchell...The "significance", I may need some help with.. I have a clue but I may be wrong because it is between him and another player but I would guess he was the first African-American to play for the team but I thought that it was Ernie Davis. Help me out Stwas.

Help me out Stwas. He was the first African-American to play for the Redskins, after President Kennedy and Congress threatened to ban the team from playing in what is now RFK Stadium. Then-owner George Preston Marshall didn't want to integrate the team for fear of alienating his fan base in the south -- at the time, all Redskins games were televised there. But, since the stadium was paid for with Federal funds, the Government stepped in.

Ernie Davis was drafted that same year by the Redskins and traded to the Browns for Mitchell. Davis later died from Lukemeia, I believe. Bobby now volunteers heavily to the cause of Ernie's death.

All right, it's time to get REALLY tough! I'm rolling up the sleeves here. If you get this one, you're one amazing person.
I was an eighth-round draft pick out of Illinois. I played just six seasons in the NFL. I was the "would-be tackler" whom Darrell Green hurdled on his way to a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown, sending the Redskins to the NFC Championship Game. Who am I?

That was a good attempt but you have to come at Darrell from a different angle, Cap Boso

Okay, it's time to revive this thread. And I'm going to do it with an even tougher question.
I was an All-American running back at the University of Washington in 1964. I was originally the property of the San Francisco 49ers. I spent two years with the Redskins. I was one of the first professional athletes to come out as gay and had a brief affair with a teammate during our time in Washington. Who am I?

That would be one Mr. Darrell Green. Could you just imagine a secondary with him and Pat Fischer in their primes at corner? Man! Teams wouldn't even think of passing against us!
