Keeping Hall is a must. He had 2 picks in his first 3 games, which is more than Carlos has had in 2 season. He lacks some in deep cover but is a pro bowler for a reason.
Carlos is a good corner but he drops way too many balls that should be caught. I was in disbelief when he actually caught one in the last game. Teams are not afraid to test him because he does not have the big threat ability - he may break up the pass but he won't be intercepting many of their passes - that is how the other teams feel anyway.
While I think Carlos would be good on the other side of Hall, starting, I think he will be shopped. If we keep Springs, Rogers will go. We need draft picks more than we need Carlos backing up either Hall or Springs. Even though Springs can move to safety, we are set at safety and don't need him there. Springs is old and gets hurt more often but is still a better corner than Carlos, so I would not be surprised to see him stay and Rogers leave.
Right on with keeping Hall and Carlos not getting INTs, CT. IMO, I think Springs should go due to his injury history and age. I think if we have Hall and Carlos along with Horton and Landry, that's a pretty good secondary. In regards to depth and rotation, we could possibly have Doughty and Moore rotate at safety but I don't know about Smoot and Tryon at CB. Depth is an issue at DB and I wouldn't be surprised if we use the draft or FA to build depth at this position. However, if we have 2 ballhogs in Horton and Hall and 2 coverage guys in Carlos and Landry, I think that would be a good starting secondary in 2009.
That is, if we resign Hall and it is not certain that we will.
