You still have not made a statement that will change my mind. No excons in a Redskins uniform. Playing in the NFL is a priviledge and what a player does off the field does and should have a balance on whether or not he gets to exercise that priviledge, I'm sure that the Commishoner will not allow him to return to the leauge which makes the entire discussion mute. It is obvious that Roger Goodell intends to make sure that players are professional on and off the field, a convicted felon will most likely not be allowed to play.

I am sure that he will play maybe not next season but he will play in the NFL again...with the 'Skins?...I do not know...that is a decision that will be made by the FO.
Repeat offenders like Nicholson the ex-Bengal are banned for life but I am sure that Vick will play somewhere...Ever heard of Leonard Little?

Because I don't want see an exconvict in a Redskins uniform is good enough reason for me. I don't have children but I would not like to explain why a person who did something so hainus is allowed to be rewarded and continue his life as if nothing happened. Charactor counts in any legitimate profession. I'm sure that you can see what signing him will do to the reputation of the team. Let another franchise take the heat on this one.
I understand your reasoning but I can't agree ...At what point do we start taking over the job of forgiving or not forgiving people for their sins? ...Do you think that Judge Greg Mathis should not have been given the opportunity to become a lawyer and then a judge? After paying the price for any sins, in which we have all have done, should we be comdemned for life by "man"? I have children and I teach them that if "we" are forgiven 70,000 times by the almighty that we should also have a forgiving heart. I think that sometimes we try to put ourselves above the man. I agree. It's time to move on. Whether he is repentant or not, it's not for us to continue to judge and punish him (unless he were to do it again of course).

Of course Fun, we should give a person a break and understand that we all fall short.

Hey, guys...IMO, I think going after Michael Vick is NOT a good idea. SURE, J-CAM has yet to earn the faith of the organization and fanbase. TRUE, Vick was an explosive football talent who still might be in his prime. However, I'm forced to agree with Yellow31 and Stwasm. The point about character made earlier is key. This team has shown since the early 90s that they no longer have the super bowl-winning heart and mentality, and I think adding someone like Vick would add a cherry to our sugar-coated run through the last 2 decades. Now, dog-fighting aside, there is no guarantee that Vick will be in good football shape when he gets out, AND who knows if he'll fit into our ever-changing systems. To go back to dog-fighting briefly, isn't he also facing more charges and penalties in VA?? After reading through this thread, I am reminded that Sean Taylor had issues and that FAs we've picked up may have been busts and big-mouthed showboats, but people can redeem themselves and I'm starting to think that players like Lloyd were busts because they weren't used correctly. IMO, we can again thank Danny and the FO for that. I agree with MB and others there, nut do we really want or need someone like this on our team? Do we want to go that low when we're already on the verge of mediocrity? Just some questions to ponder. Just out of interest, why not let Dallas or Cincy sign him??

Alex, I do not bit more know Vick's "character" any more than I know Cooley's, Portis' or Samuels', etc....In Vick I see a man, a human who did a horrible thing, got into trouble for it and served his time.I also see a human who's family has shown a lot of love for him and a man who has shown much love for his little girl, who has been seen at some of the hearings. I do not see a repeat offender or a third striker nor do I hold myself or any other human higher than this man or think that his sins were much more than any that I have committed . I know that because we all fall short that each and everyone of us have the potential to go out and do much worse than he did.
I know that he is a excellent talent and I really have not heard of any locker room problems
As far as I am concerned when he step out side those walls of prison he has served his judgement and should be forgiven by man and should be able to go on with his life.

I think signing Vick would be a terrible idea. This goes to show that you shouldn't take anything from the Examiner seriously. This is exactly like Pacman Jones he's gone and people start to talk about him like he was really good player. He's not. People in Atlanta were very unhappy with Vick's play towards the end of his time there. Very interesting athlete but his stats are misleading.
Not to mention he's still in jail for murdering a few of man's best friends because they weren't willing to murder others. There would be so many problems that would come with him in the media. Not worth it.

It is not just the Examiner, the football world knows that it is a possibility that Vick will be playing again somewhere. ESPN reported that he may be suspended for a year or maybe even longer but the possibility is there for his return. I have not heard anything about him coming back to play QB, I am hearing WR/punt returner/RB but I do not think our team or anyone elses is just gonna give him a job. If he comes out and can not perform, I think that his career is over and I think that even if given a shot, most teams will do so hesitantly so he is going to have to be extra talented in order to win a spot. But he should get a shot with a team

Vick deserves the same chance any player would get if a team was interested in him.
I mean he should go through the same proccess of proving he is capable of contributing to the Team. If he doesnt come up to scratch then fair enough at least hes had a fair chance to prove what he can still do.

I understand where you're coming from, MB and UK, and I also believe that we all make mistakes and can be forgiven. I also think that people can improve IF they are given the chance to. However, looking at what Vick did and his mentality as a football player (which I agree with an earlier comment about concerning how Atlanta was unhappy with him), I don't think he should be on this team. Also, and I think this will say a lot, but he's not what we need right now. Come to think of it, is his brother in the NFL?

Come to think of it, is his brother in the NFL? His brother last played with the Dolphins but Marcus was no Michael on the football field...I really think and hope that Michael, if not with our team although I would not mind if he did, plays again and is very productive. He is a awesome talent and I do not want to see it go to waste.

There's one thing everyone seems to be forgetting. Most likely, even if we do sign him, he won't play in 2009 because the league still can and probably will suspend him. Do we really want to take a chunk out of the salary cap on someone we may not be able to use until at least 2010? Again, we also need to stop falling in love with the "superstars" and ask whether it's a good fit. That is, has he run the West Coast Offense? How effective can he be after not doing anything for so long? Is the team prepared for the distractions his presence alone will cause (i.e., constant questions about how they feel about having Michael Vick on the team instead of focusing on games)? What kind of backlash from fans will his signing cause? Is Clinton Portis prepared to no longer be the "alpha male" in the locker room, having to share the spotlight with Vick?
While everyone does deserve a second chance, his presence, I think, will cause more trouble than it's worth.
