After 7 games CP has 818 yards and a 5.0 ypc average....he has these numbers after having 2 slightly below average and 1 average game in the first three games of the season on top of having faced the then #4 Cowboys rushing defense in which he gained 121 yards and the then  #1 ranked Philly rush D (145 yards gained)...so this is not a fluke!!!

I think that we may see a 2000 yard season from our great back  so we should pay close attention to his numbers for the rest of the season.

Next up.... The Detroit Lions with the 31st ranked rushing defense in the NFL... we should see Portis put up more great numbers and possibly get to 1000 yards at the half-way point!!

Go CP...Go Cp...GO...Go...Go CP

Portis responds with ANOTHER great game...

126 Yards on 24 carries a 5.25 ypc

944 yards for the season while STILL averaging over 5 yards per carry!!

The guy is producing in every game you cannot ask for more. My only fear is we wear him out.

He only needs 58 yards for a 1000.  As Alexander becomes more comfortable (and when Betts returns) then you will see Portis get some rest for the stretch.

I do not think that 20-25 carries a game for the rest of the season is going to hurt him...I actually think that these are the numbers of carries he expected to have as the team's premier back.

Next up...The Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have a great run D so I think that it is going to be hard for CP to break loose but if anyone can get it done, I think that Port can, ESPECIALLY if Samuels is healthy.

I think that he will get at least what they average per game (72 yards) and break 1000 before the bye week!!!

They said Philly would stop him too, but they failed.

But I agree to think he will go over 100 again is hopping for more than we should but to go over 1000 in total you would not bet against it.

I think it's great that he has so many yards this soon in the season.
He is so physical and gives up his body so much and I know he loves being the workhorse.
But he is going to be the key for us controlling the clock come playoff time. He needs to still have some gas in the tank.
If he does get 2000 that would be a great feat. But I know he would want "The Ring" more.

I agree NCSF I would love to him well rested during the playoffs but I really do not see his production going down lower than 20-25 carries per game for this reason...

Giants 6-1, Wasington 6-2, Dallas 5-3, Philly 4-3, Carolina 6-2, Tampa Bay 6-2, Atlanta 4-3, New orleans 4-4, Chicago 4-3 and Green Bay 4-3

Until this pack starts to seperate and unless Shaun Alexander picks up his pace and/or Betts come back full speed, I can see Portis easily continuing at his pace, carry-wise deep into the season.

I am hearing this a lot but I do not get it...Besides Portis rookie season and the '06 season when he was injuried in preseason but played a few games, he has been averaging a little over 22 carries per game throughout his career... THIS season he is averaging a little over 23 carries per game. It does not look like he is being worn out at all....carry per game wise Portis is having a average year.

Also, he has only 11 catches so far this season after having 47 last season, 30 in '05, 40 in '04 and 38 and 33 (Rookie year) in Denver so he is not been overused in the passing game, in fact we are using him less.

IMO, we are giving Portis the number of carries that he need to have for us.

CP played a pretty good game considering we played against a AWESOME Pittsburgh Steelers D...He managed only 51 yards on 13 carries a 3.9 yard per carry average...He Now has 995 yards on 200 carries and still has a 5.0 average

Your right Mike! Not bad all and all.

At this point I think 2000 yards is a long shot unless he has a couple of monster games against some of the weaker teams  like the Bengals, Seahawks and 49ers. It's going to be hard to expect big numbers vs. the NFC East teams.

But I am still hoping that he does!
