All of the excitement of the season getting ready to begin and members being hyped about the goings on in the next few weeks, made me reflect on the reason that I love this team so much. After about an hour of giving it some serious thoughts, I could not think of one SINGLE reason.
I did not grow up in the area, so that could not have been reason. My dad wasn’t around then so I could not have been following his lead. I was too young when I became a ‘Skins fan to really analyze games and choose the team that I thought was best, so that was not it.
I finally realized that to me, there has not been a SINGLE player, event, year or coach that triggered my love for the team. I think that the same reason that fish is my favorite food is why the Redskins is my favorite team. Like fish, the team is my “birthmark”, a team that I was born to follow and support through thick and through thin. That is the only explanation for the passion that I have for my team.
With that being said, I would like to know the reason that my fellow fans have chosen to join the greatest fandom in the world?
Let RH know here....

the reason I love the Redskins is that I followed the lead of my Dad. I can remember being a kid looking forward to watch the Cowboys and Redskins game. Another reason is that I live in Texas and I HATE THE FREAKIN COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!

What a great question!...
My love for the Redskins started when I was very young...I was a daddy's girl so I was always with him...Every Sunday/Monday the Redskins were on our TV... My brother and I watched (the good AND bad)...I guess you could say it was a way of life...As a child my dad took me to meet a few players too...Of course made my love grow even more!!...I will forever love the Redskins!

When Channell 4 (yep they were our 4th tv channell) came into being 25 years ago they had an hour long show every Sunday showing the NFL. It was the first time every we got regular coverage, we even started to get the Superbowl Live.
I tuned in like many to see what this game was all about, about the only team that we had heard of at that time was the Cowpukes (how deprived were we) I watched and when I saw John Riggins no nonsense style I liked what I saw. Then I watched that years Divisional game and heard the chant "we want Dallas" and saw old RFK bounce. That was it I felt the Redskins had chosen me not the other way around.
I was at college the next day but stayed up late to watch that first Superbowl win, I still remember the train journey in the morning and feeling knackered. But I was so happy, my team had won, my fav player had won it.
So started a tradition only twice in the following 25 Suberbowls have i worked or gone to college the next day. I cannot explain why i feel the way i do, I just feel that way. The only other non national team I feel that way about is Albion Rovers but then I only lived around the corner from their stadium.

I loved football at a very young age. My uncle played high school football when I was around 5 or 6. I remember going to his games and being so into it.
Growing up in North Carolina the Redskins were the NFL team on TV every week. So I just started watching the games every Sunday.
I was one of those kids that new all the players names and uniform numbers. I collected their football cards and lived to get my hands on anything with the Redskins logo on it.
I can remember coming home from church and turning on CBS's NFL Today hoping that they would talk about the Redskins. Then I would sit there and watch every second of the Redskins game wearing my #17 or #55 jersey. After the game was over I would go outside and play backyard football and pretend I was a Redskin's player. Not much has changed really. Except I have a lot more jerseys. LOL
I love football and I love the Washington Redskins. Win or lose they will always be my team.
HTTR!!!

What a great questions Mike.
My story is as followed. I did not grow up with american football, I grew up with german soccer and I love that sport. I am so saddend that we just lost the European championship against Spain back in June and 2 years ago lost the world championship against Brasil. Sorry I am getting of the subject.
Back to american Football. When I first arrived to America in 1991, I ran accross football on TV, and I said what a interesting sport, very physical. I saw the cowgirls, philly, 49'ers and some other teams. But when the Washington Redskins walked on the field it was like love at first side. They swooped me of my feet.
I love game of football and I love the Washington Redskins, always and forever. I am a Redskin. HTTR

Well it all started in a very and I mean very small town in New Mexico. It was first grade and everybody had a Cowboys jacket. The only way you could fit in was if you had something with a Cowboys on.I or my brother didn't have any Cowpaddies stuff.Remember being hurt and pissed at the same time so my Mom asked me what was wrong so I explained. Of course my mommy wanted to go and yell at everyone but my Dad said no I got a better idea. What he did was go get a Redskins jersey and a 49er's jacket and told my brother and I to pick a team.I loved the colors burgandy and gold so I picked the Redskins my bro the 49ers. Ever since I have been a die hard fan. Many many beers ago I asked my Dad why he did it and he said,"Mijo(son),the reason I did it was because I wanted you boys to be LEADERS and not FOLLOWERS.If I would have gotten Cowboy stuff you would have always be followers!" So that is why I love my Redskins cuz they taught me for who I am today....a leader. My kids are following Daddy's footsteps now in being leaders and of course Redskins fans....HTTR and thanx DAD!!

LOVE this team! I come from a family of baseball fans, not surprising since it's the national sport here AND in Cuba, my country of origin. We've always followed the Cuban players that land in the majors here, and that's all good and fine and wonderful...but football is my particular sport of choice. I've been in love w/ the B&G after having done grad school in DC and no other team has every infiltrated itself into my heart since. HTTR!

I was raised to be a Redskin fan. Growing up in southeastern VA that was the team you saw every Sunday. Grew up watching Charley Taylor, Sonny J, Larry Brown, Chris Hanburger, Mike Bragg and so on. I learned true hatred of Cowboys from George Allen.
My father was a Skins fan and can remember watching games with him. If team started doing poorly (good chance in early years) then would have to move to different position. If they were doing well then couldn't move. LOL
My oldest son is now a diehard Skins fan. Basically he had no choice. Taken hime to several games and hung out at tailgate with SF44, Pez, Huly, Halter, and other cast of characters.

This is a perfect topic.
I have more than one reason as to why I love the Redskins.
I have the "Top 3" reasons in particular order along with others not so particular.
1. Logo-I just love the Indian and feather. It just looks great. That is basically why the Redskins are my favorite team overall when it comes to any sport.
2. Burgandy and Gold-All I can say is that it is a great color scheme. It goes hand in hand.
3. Washington-the city and team go well together like hand and glove. I just love the city of Washington. It is one of my favorite cities.
...and then the other reasons.
Jack Kent Cooke-One of the best decisions he ever made as the owner of the was hire Coach Gibbs. It may have been an unpopular decision from the beginning, but it paid dividends in Gibbs' second year and throughout his first stint with the team. Another thing that I love about him is him acknowledging us, the Redskins fans. We definitely do mean something to him. To conclude with this part, he was definitely a magnificent owner.
70 Greatest Redskins-This was a great thing the team did to celebrate the anniversary and honoring the players who have played for the Redskins. It was just great to see Redskins players from different decades come together for this anniversary. Seeing all those players together is just a lovely sight.
Coaches and players-Some from the current roster and those who were not part of the 70 Greatest Redskins list, but did have the values of a Redskin.
"Hail to the Redskins"-This is just a great fight song. We are one of the only teams to even have a fight song. It is definitely a fight song of pride. This song is especially great during the 1983 NFC Championship against the Cowboys, probably the greatest game in Redskins history.
Redskins Marching Band-For pro football bands, we are one out of two bands that are in existence to this day. It's great hearing them play "Hail to the Redskins". I remember a grand opening of a Redskins store in my area, they were playing, plus they were great. I remember them playing an OutKast song (The Way You Move) and it was lovely as far as I'm concerned. I just love seeing and hearing them perform.
Chris Paul-No, not the Chris Paul who plays for the New Orleans Hornets to clear things up. Those who live in The District (Washington), 703 (Virginia suburbs), and the 301/240 (Maryland suburbs) would know him. He is a radio personality who does these Redskins rap songs in a DC urban radio station (95.5 WPGC) during the football season. He does songs about upcoming games (especially the Cowboys), results of previous games, and other miscellaneous things involving the Redskins. The concept of the song process is picking a current song and rapping about the Redskins in that particular beat. A perfect example is a 50 song "I Get Money". For the song that he does for that beat, it's called "I Hate Dallas". That along with some of the other songs that he does just gets me amped. This is something that he has been doing since the early '90s to my knowledge, but I could be wrong. He along with the Redskins are one of the many reasons why I want to live near The District, particularly the 703, aka Northern VA.
These are just some of the many reasons as to why I love the Redskins. I have some others, but these are the ones that really stick out. My bad for stating all these reasons, but I had to do it. I was thinking about doing something like this, but you beat me to it. Great topic anyway.
