I have to give props to my alma mater, American University. At the beginning of the college basketball season, the men's team was expected to finish last in the Patriot League. Well, Cinderella paid a visit to Northwest Washington and the Eagles are going to the Big Dance! Tournament MVP Garrison Carr scored 17 points and Brian Gilmore added 11 to give AU a 52-46 win over Colgate. American will be making its first trip to the NCAA Tournament. More than anything else, though, after being in the shadows of the likes of Georgetown, Maryland, George Washington and, most recently, George Mason, it's nice to see AU make some noise in the Washington area college hoops scene.
