The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia has ordered former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick to pay more than $2.5 million to the Royal Bank of Canada, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting.

The court granted a motion for summary judgment against Vick for default and breach of a promisory note from January 18, 2007.

According to the paper, Vick was found in default of $2,421,170.90 that he owes the bank. In addition, he owes $499 a day in interest since September 19, which is 231 days for a total of $115,269. Vick also must reimburse the bank for $11,950.97 in attorneys’ fees and costs.

The bank sent a letter to Vick on August 31, 2007 — four days after his guilty plea to federal conspiracy charges was accepted — demanding repayment of a line of credit that he’d taken out for a real estate venture. The bank’s lawsuit said Vick failed to provide a required personal financial statement and that an “adverse change” in his employment “could affect the borrower’s ability to repay the note.”

Wachovia Bank has also filed a lawsuit saying Vick defaulted on a loan. The Falcons tried to force Vick to pay back nearly $20 million in bonus money, but a judge ruled in Vick’s favor.

OK...let me just say this...I like animals...and I believe animals shouldn't be tortured under any circumstances...but they are still "animals".  What irks me about this is...all the other atheletes that are committing crimes against PEOPLE and none of them are suffering this type of "justice".  Granted MV broke VA law and for that he should pay..and I'm not privy to his NFL contract to know what kinds of clauses are in there about criminal activity...I'm just saying...His treatment by the NFL and the public has been unbelievable.  Tell me I'm not an animal lover yada, yada, yada, but I'm a person who believes it's worse to commit crimes against ppl than animals.  Please don't tell me that ppl can defend themselves and animals can't...b/c although ppl have to ability to defend themselves, often times the crimes are so random that they don't have an opportunity to defend themselves.  Animals can defend themselves..that's why they have sharp teeth and claws and they can use them very well..but often times animals get caught w/o warning as well.  I find it repulsive to see criminals get more time for harming a dog than they do for killing their neighbor, their children, their parents, their spouses or whatever.  Not saying that the dog deserves to get harmed..no...but c'mon....more time for killing an animal than for killing a human being?  Doesn't sit well w/me..and perhaps I'm a bit jaded, having lost a child to violence through no fault of his own and the killers only getting 15 years in prison.  My family got a life sentence...we're the only ones paying the ultimate price for these hoodlums' acts of senseless violence.  So forgive me if I'm indifferent to fido's plight.  I've had pets in my past and I took care them and made sure they were kept in comfort and what not...but I fail to see how an animal's plight compares to a human's.  Forgive if I offend anyone. Just my .02

p.s. granted this was about a promissory note..but I had to get this off of my chest..and it's safer here than over on ES... Cheesy
