The Redskins have signed first-year quarterback Derek Devine and first-year safety Patrick Ghee, the team announced on Tuesday. The team also released four undrafted rookies who participated in mini-camp on May 2-4: defensive end Alonzo Dotson, safety Kevin Mitchell, quarterback Bret Meyer and safety Justin Scott.
Devine and Ghee are both former Seattle Seahawks, so they should have some familiarity with practices under Jim Zorn, a former Seattle quarterbacks coach.
Devine, 6-3 and 222 pounds, entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Seahawks in 2007. He was released by the club prior to the start of the regular season.
Devine played college ball at Marshall, but was a third-string QB as a junior and senior. He threw just eight passes in two years at Marshall, but he was able to impress NFL scouts with his strong arm.
Ghee, 6-1 and 210 pounds, signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007. He was released by the club after training camp.
Ghee signed with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad on Dec. 26, 2007. He played college ball at Wake Forest, lining up primarily at strong safety.
