Looks like it's time to christen this new section with an interesting story on Zorn's personality.  Good for him to letting the team know when he's not happy with something!

http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080503/SPORTS01/520400089/1005/SPORTS

Jim Zorn seems like he could be the nice guy next door who lets you borrow his power tools or lawnmower. But the Washington Redskins' coach has a fiery side, too, as he showed yesyerday during the afternoon practice of his team's first day of minicamp.

Zorn exploded when Shawn Springs picked off a Jason Campbell pass and lateraled to fellow veteran cornerback Fred Smoot, who went tumbling head over heels and lost the ball.

"Don't do that," Zorn screamed. "Don't mess around like that. You get the ball, run with it!"

Asked about his reaction, Zorn said, "When we have the right to have the ball with a great interception and then to kind of throw it away, yeah then I get upset."

Springs, who played four years in Seattle when Zorn was a Seahawks assistant, said he wasn't taken aback by the coach's reaction.

"That's good," Springs said. "Freddy corrupts me. I'm going to have apologize to Coach Zorn."

Defensive coordinator Greg Blache said Zorn "has got a lot of John Wayne in him," a quiet guy who is strong when he needs to be.

"The neatest thing about Coach Z is that he hits a home run at everything he does because he's always himself," Blache said. "The meeting with the coaches, he doesn't try to be [Seattle Seahawks coach] Mike Holmgren. The meeting with the players, he didn't come across trying to be Knute Rockne. He's been Jim Zorn. He's genuine. There's nothing phony about him, nothing pre-scripted. He's just a down-to-earth person. He's got an innate ability to lead people."

I think that Coach Zorn is going to spark a lot of fire into the team that they have needed.

I'm glad that Zorn did get in their stuff because these two guys are veterans and supposed to be setting examples for the younger players. If they would've gotten away with that, I believe that a lot of that crap would've started happening in camp, which isn't good.

On the flip though, by Zorn jumping these guys, the younger players are going to know to take their jobs serious even when it's just practice.

I guess that it depends what situation they were in, in a need to score one that lateral could've spelled touchdown, but I can understand the need to just secure the ball and let your offense do the scoring as well.

"That's good," Springs said. "Freddy corrupts me. I'm going to have apologize to Coach Zorn."

It is about not practicing bad habits, I can see in a game where a player might, instinctively try to get the ball to a team mate in order to move the ball further but it is really not the best idea and is certainly nothing that you want to practice doing.

Couldn't have said it better.  I am impressed with Zorn.  Honestly believe he is going to
take this team places.

I'm glad he set a tone early. We need to be serious this year. Although I did fine Shawn's excuse of being "corrupted" by Smoot funny.

We're fine as long as Danny keeps his meddling to a minimum (YEAH, RIGHT!)

Stwas, I think that the "Danny-Hater-Redskin's-fan-community" has diminished greatly. This might be just about the right time for you to to climb aboard with the fans who just let it go and realized that Danny has learned from his mistakes.

I'm sure that you do not want to be the only, red-faced fan left as we grow back into a winning program under his control .

While the Skins fan in me would LOVE to do that, the skeptic in me would rather take a wait-and-see approach.  Given my experiences of the highs and lows of being a Redskins fan -- not to mention the fact that I'm a former sports journalist with ex-colleagues who tell me things that aren't privvy to most -- I have to take everything that comes out of Redskin Park with a grain of salt until I see results.
