I think the draft is very important and even if we trade for a Wr we have 8 draft picks. On redskins radio Vinny said they plan on signing 12 undrafted free agents and they will have a roster of 90. It is possible to get good players in the draft while fixing a hole with a vet.

I hear that, but is it really a wise move to tie up $21 million into one player when we could use that amount to sign multiple players at different positions?

I think for a player like Chad Johnson yes. I think the draft is so hit or miss in round 1 for someone who you have to pay big money.

But, what good is having a player like Chad Johnson if there are so many other holes on the team, it compromises what the offense can do?

I don't agree that we have so many holes on our team. I think we are desperate for help at WR, CB. We also need depth at LB, S, OL. It's just the only positons I think we need a starting quality guy now is receiver and corner.

Also a DT that can collapse the pocket would be nice but I like our younger guys at that spot. (Monty, Golston)

But, we don't have a defensive line that can dominate like the Giants' did in the Super Bowl?  Outside of Andre Carter, we don't have a consistent pass rush.  I agree we need help at WR and CB.  But, how healthy are Marcus Washington and Rocky McIntosh?  Can Reed Doughty replace Sean Taylor?  Who will be another back-up safety?  How do we address an offensive line that's aging and injury prone?  That's why I want to keep ALL of our picks.  We have a good amount of picks.  Instead of trading them away again, let's keep them so we can get some young, hungry players in here who, if they can't supplant the incumbents at their positions, they can push them and give us quality minutes off the bench.  I just don't see how Chad Johnson can lift us to the next level if the offensive and defensive line -- whose performances directly dictate how well the offense does -- have so many question marks.

I agree we need a more consistant pass rush. No doubt. I have a lot of hope for Chris Wilson and Daniels has spent this offseason training for powerlifting competitions if that means anything. I think we will sign a vet linebacker before camp. Reed Doughty will not replace Sean Taylor and no one can. He can be a starting strong saftey in this league. Laron Landry is a monster with 4.3 speed and showed many times that he could be a all-pro FS. We need to draft a saftey with some size for depth. I like our back-up tackles Fabini and Heyer but we need an interior lineman( someone who can delvelop into a starter). Our weak link last year was Redzone offense through the air. No WR Td's till what week 10? I think our big disagreement is that I think we are in better shape now than you do. I certainly see all your points so I am afraid we will never agree on this topic. Huh

But it is still not about going into panic mode and thinking that every pick should be used to "rebuild" especially when the draft is null of star talent. We have a good mix of "good" talent right now along with draft picks available for depth where we can sign a CJ, Williams or Boldin while we still build depth.

We are not going to build a winning team if we draft suspect players while not having players with  star quality already in place on our team.

Mike, it isn't about rebuilding.  It's about getting young players we don't have to push those veterans already in place if not take over for them right away.  I don't need "star" talent.  I just want solid individuals we can coach to be ready to take over.  We don't have that now.  That is the purpose of the draft.  Too many people want to win now with stars while ignoring the draft to build depth and find talent to groom as eventual replacements.  We've given away too many draft picks and tied up too much money in a few players with very little in the way of results.  It's time to start bringing in more bodies to create competition for playing time or at least provide adequate back up.

Well heck Stwas, then I guess talking about winning SB's should be all-non-void to ya right about now homie because you aint gonna  do it without any star talent on the team bud.

But hey, we'll be a hella nice, deep group tho... with sweet personalities.

And there's no guarantee we're going to win a Super Bowl with Chad Johnson by himself, talent and history notwithstanding.
