Cardinals unwilling to deal Boldin, willing to talk contract

Add Arizona's Anquan Boldin to the list of disgruntled wide receivers that have requested a trade.

Boldin recently met with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and informed him that he would like to be traded. The Cardinals told Boldin they were unwilling to trade him, but would consider exploring the possibility of a new contract with him.

Boldin is scheduled to make $2.5 million this season, $2.75 million next season and $3 million in 2010 -– considerably less than the four-year, $40 million extension that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald signed with Arizona last month.

For now, Arizona has taken the same stance as Cincinnati has with its disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson, who has the same agent, Drew Rosenhaus, as Boldin. The Cardinals have made it clear they are unwilling to trade Boldin.

General manager Rod Graves said Tuesday night that he views Boldin as one of the franchise's building blocks, a core player, and he is not interested in trading him.

But it is up to another team such as Washington that already has made an offer for Johnson to see if it could persuade Arizona to surrender Boldin.

It all adds to the intrigue of draft week. And it all creates a situation in Arizona that is similar to the one in Cincinnati.

Cardinals turned down trade Redskins' offer for Boldin

The Arizona Cardinals have no interest in dealing wide receiver Anquan Boldin, despite trade inquiries from other teams and a trade request by Boldin's agent.

"We're not interested in trading Anquan," general manager Rod Graves said, according to the Arizona Republic. "That's the short of it."

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the Cardinals have declined a trade offer from the Washington Redskins for the five-year veteran. The Redskins also unsuccessfully sought to trade for disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson.

The Philadelphia Eagles also have inquired about Boldin and are dangling Lito Sheppard as part of a deal. The Cards are saying no for now.

Boldin is reportedly unhappy with his contract after the Cardinals re-signed fellow Arizona wideout Larry Fitzgerald to a four-year, $40 million deal. The Cards say that they won't re-do Boldin's deal so he's asked out, Mortensen reported.

Boldin's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, recently asked the team if it would be willing to trade his client, Cardinals officials said, according to the Republic. The Cardinals said no and don't plan to allow Rosenhaus to seek a trade.

"Anquan is a quality person and a great player," Graves said, according to the report. "We're hoping we can agree on a longer-term deal."

The newspaper reported that neither Rosenhaus nor Boldin could be reached for comment.

The roots of the trade talk extend to last summer, when Boldin and Rosenhaus met with Graves and coach Ken Whisenhunt to discuss a new deal. Rosenhaus, according to the Cardinals, made a proposal, and the Cardinals made a counterproposal in late November or early December, according to the report.

Graves said that offer would have put Boldin among the five highest-paid receivers within three years, the Republic reported.

"Drew did not respond to that proposal," Graves said, according to the report. "The proposal sat with him over a month. I called to ask him if he was going to respond, and he said he was going to wait until Larry Fitzgerald [contract] was done."

Boldin has three years left on his current contract with the team.

I would take Boldin over Johnson, but the Cards are not going to trade him after losing their #3 WR to FA.

Oh my!!!...Scary INDEED Shocked

Yup..Our players, besides maybe Portis and potentialy Landry are "alright" but you don't win Superbowls and build dynasties with "alright" players.

We gotta get some players and although I am a draftnik and would love to get players through the draft to build on, I too realize that if the talent is not there we are going to be drafting more "alright" players to go with our "alright" players and where will that leave us?

I have to agree with some of the posters about how Snyder (My homie) and co. has ruined opportunities for us to have already gotten stronger players in stronger draft years, by using our picks to aquire unproven players with "potential" through free agency, who did not reach that potential. But the past is gone and you can not change anything by thinking that you are going to NOW build a Superbowl roster with a draft full of players that are considered "depth" players by the time our selection comes.

We have the picks so, yeah lets use  them (every one but the first pick) and I hope that we get the most out of them but I am not foolishly thinking that we are going to get anyone this year that is going to change anything.

THIS is definitely the year to trade that first round pick...that is...if anyone wants it.

I think Danny drove the price up with the Ocho proposal.  I would expect the Lions to ask for BOTH of Dallas' first round picks.  After the way Dallas stole Pacman, the Boys will probably ask for a 5th rounder in return but they'll have to part with more than I'm sure they want to.

Now I think that would be a steep asking price but Dallas is in a pretty good position player-wise and getting a player like Roy for their #1's in a draft which is rich in depth players but poor in star quality may not be a the worst move in the world.

Although I do not think that they ask for BOTH of their #1's.
