There were a lot of differing opinions about the posibility of Chad Johnson  becoming a Redskin and after veiwing a couple of boards, I found a couple of articles about the possibilty of the team being in the hunt for Roy Williams and he could be moved by the end of the week...

Mike Quick who is the analyst for the Eagles games with Merrill Reese says there will be news about Roy Williams before the week is out.
Mike Quick says he thinks the Birds are going to make a major move at the wide receiver position.  He talked about Roy Williams and the potential that the Eagles will make a deal to acquire a wide receiver.  He says there will be news on Roy Williams before the week is out.

That means the Cowboys, Redskins or the Eagles will probably wind up with the receiver before the week is out.

Mike just finished doing a live interview in a webcast with G. Cobb and Steve Martorano from Infiniti of Westchester and he says the Birds will try to do something this week.  They're in a bidding a war right now.,

When asked about the Birds fear of being upstaged by the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers, Mike said he believes the Eagles are going to do something this weekend to take back all the attention.

GCobb.com (which has been nailing many an Eagles scoop this offseason) says that Eagles radio analyst Mike Quick says he thinks that the Eagles “will make a major move” at receiver this week.

Apparently, the Cowboys and the Redskins are in the hunt as well.

Williams, one of the rare first-round wideouts chosen by the Lions during the past decade who has turned into a solid player, is signed through 2008. But with receiver Calvin Johnson, the No. 2 overall selection in 2007, entering his second year and commanding a big chunk of cap space, the Lions have to ask themselves whether they should get try to get value for Williams now, or face losing him after the coming season. (They could also put the franchise tag on him and then trade him, but they would need roughly $10 million in cap space on the books in order to carry his one-year franchise tender until a trade would be worked out.)

Let's face it, with our WR situation and the fact that we did not do anything to make it better in the FA signing period, this can be a possibilty before the draft even starts because as we all seem to agree on, the receiver position is a hard one to predict as far as prospects are concerned.

So would it be okay to pick up Williams because his trade scenario has been more quiet than CJ's has been?

He is the perfect example of the type of receiver we are looking for. I would love to have him.

The Bengals turned our offer for CJ down but I think that we will make another play for one of these two receivers before the draft begins.

Roy Williams would be a good pick up.  I don't see us offering more for him than for Chad, so it might be a good deal.

For the right price Roy Williams would be an excellent pick up. Hopefully the price would be less than what we offered for Chad. A first and third, with the potential of two first's is a bit steep.

I could live w/Roy Williams.  I hope we get some O-line help tho.  While I understand the need for a big WR...we also need some O-line upgrades.  I don't want to see Jason w/a career ending injury before he has a career Sad

Ldy,

The O-line that you saw last season is the O-line you will see this season only with Jansen and Thomas  inserted back into starting the line up.

I agree, that we should concentrate on the line but that will not affect our 1st (because Albert will be gone) or may be even our second pick in this year's draft. The player will be selected for  depth and development in anticipation that our line may be going through some changes because of age in the next couple of years. I honestly hope that our line stays healthy this year and we do not see the drafted lineman play, therefore we can maybe hold off on a line until the third but we SHOULD get 2 or 3 from then on.

On the other hand, our need for a receiver is an immediate need and Roy would fit the bill of a player who could immediately come in and breath some life back into a position that is in pretty critical condition right now.

It looks like the Redskins did not only offer up a trade for CJ, they also offered a trade for Boldin this weekend...

In addition to getting turned down by the Bengals in their trade proposal for disgruntled Johnson, the Redskins were also rejected this weekend on their trade proposal to the Cardinals for wide receiver Anquan Boldin, sources said.

Boldin is unhappy with contract after Cardinals paid big bucks to fellow Arizona wideout Larry Fitzgerald. The Cards say that they won't re-do Boldin's deal so he's asked out.

I think that we are going to get a receiver for our pick before the draft.

The cat is out of the bag.  Now that the Cards and Lions know what we offered for Ocho, it will take equal or greater value to get Boldin or Williams.  Face it, Roy was the only one of the Lions' three WR picks, prior to Calvin Johnson, that has had any success.  They certainly won't let him go anywhere near as cheaply as we originally thought, especially when Danny is involved.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Washington has pursued trading its first-round pick in this weekend's draft (No. 21 overall) for Cincinnati's Chad Johnson, according to the Washington Post. The Redskins offered the Bengals a conditional third-round pick in their latest known proposal. Washington's trade attempt for Arizona's Anquan Boldin was rejected, but the team might try to acquire Detroit's Roy Williams.
